2024 UOW Bega Campus Scholarships

2024 UOW Bega Campus Scholarships

On October 14, the Mumbulla Community Foundation proudly awarded six scholarships to students at the University of Wollongong, Bega Campus. This special event was a celebration of hard work and achievement, as family, friends, peers, and teachers gathered to honor these remarkable individuals. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the scholarship recipients!

Supporting education in the Bega Valley is a collective effort that deserves recognition. It was invigorating to be among other local scholarship providers such as Tarra Motors, Bega Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tathra and Bega Lions Clubs, Bega Cheese, the Blomfield family, and Bega and Pambula Rotary Clubs—all committed to fostering educational opportunities through this amazing program.

We can take pride in knowing that the Bega UOW Campus boasts the largest number of community scholarships among all University of Wollongong campuses. This impressive achievement was highlighted by Ms. Avitaia, our campus manager. A big shout-out goes to Community Bank Pambula & Bega for their unwavering support of the Mumbulla Community Foundation Scholarship program.

Let’s continue to champion education in our community! Thank you to Bega District News and Jimmie Parker for covering this inspiring story and capturing a group photo that will serve as a lasting memory of this momentous occasion. Together, we can ensure that future generations have access to educational resources that empower them for success! 2024 School Book Prizes Awarded

2024 School Book Prizes Awarded

🎉 Over the past 20 years, Mumbulla Community Foundation has awarded more than 440 book prize vouchers to local Bega Valley schools. This year alone, our Foundation delivered 23 school book prizes, with vouchers redeemable at our local Candelo Bookshop. These awards recognize one remarkable student from each primary and high school in the Bega Valley!

These prizes are more than just vouchers; they celebrate students who have shown outstanding generosity of spirit and kindness throughout the year. 💖 In a world where positivity can sometimes feel scarce, these awards highlight those who embody kindness and inspire others to do the same. Together, let’s continue to nurture this spirit within our community.

Soul 4th Sunday

Soul 4th Sunday

Soul4thSunday was a community musical gathering where musicians and the public came together to create music and art, share conversations, and enjoy food.

Held on the fourth Sunday of each month from February to November in Candelo, it was proudly supported by the Mumbulla Community Foundation.

Congratulations to the Candelo Arts Society and David Macdonald for creating series of events that explored how live music can become a cultural asset rather than a commodified and performative one. David noted that this perspective shifts music from being passively consumed to becoming an essential part of the social fabric of a shared and meaningful life. Engaging in the collective creation of music—understanding and appreciating it as a process rather than merely a product—becomes a deeply impactful and special experience.

We love the idea of recording feedback using a typewriter. Let’s hope to see more of Soul4thSundays in 2025 in Candelo and other creative ways to engage and connect with others. 🤩🥁🎷🪘

Men’s Dinner – Bemboka

Men’s Dinner – Bemboka

The second annual How Art Bemboka Community Hub Men’s Dinner took place on Saturday, October 19th, at the Bemboka Sports Club. Nearly 40 men attended, and the event featured cars, motorcycles, plenty of hearty food, conversations, providing opportunities to connect.

Glenn Cotter from R U OK delivered an honest and open talk on the importance of checking in on each other as mates and being bold enough to ask “are you okay” if you feel your mate is not doing well. The staggering figures of 9 suicides a day, with 7 being men, really brought the message home.

Thank you to all the men who contributed by bringing cars and motorcycles, making the night a great success. Events like the Men’s Dinner are vital for providing opportunities for men to relax and catch up with others in a stress-free setting.

Mumbulla Community Foundation is proud to support this event.
