Last week, our Circle gathered for a truly uplifting evening with Amy Colli, Coordinator of the Northern Rivers Women’s Giving Circle. From the moment Amy joined us, there was a sense of warmth, generosity, and shared purpose in the room. She spoke openly about her experience building and sustaining one of Australia’s most successful regional giving circles, and her reflections resonated deeply with everyone present.
Even though our two circles differ in size, demographics, structure, and resources, Amy reminded us that the heart of this work is universal: connection, generosity, and community‑led impact. Her insights offered both practical guidance and heartfelt encouragement as we continue shaping our own journey here in the Bega Valley.
The Story Behind a Strong Giving Circle
Amy began by taking us back to the early days of the Northern Rivers Circle — how it was founded, how it grew, and the turning points that shaped its identity. What stood out most was the enduring sense of purpose that has kept their members engaged year after year.
She spoke beautifully about the many reasons women choose to join a giving circle. Some come for connection, some for impact, some for learning, and some simply because they want to be part of something hopeful. Her reminder not to project our own motivations onto others was a powerful one. A giving circle thrives when it welcomes all levels of involvement and honours the diverse ways women choose to contribute.
Lessons Learned & Words of Wisdom
As the conversation unfolded, Amy shared the lessons she has learned along the way — the surprises, the challenges, and the moments that shaped her understanding of women’s philanthropy.
A few themes rose to the surface:
- Stories matter. They connect people to purpose and bring impact to life in a way numbers never can.
- Impact is both personal and collective. The projects supported by the Northern Rivers Circle have changed individual lives and strengthened the broader community.
- Clarity and communication keep people engaged. When members understand the process and feel part of the journey, they stay connected.
Heartfelt Thanks
We are deeply grateful to Amy Colli for her time, wisdom, and generosity. Her openness gave our members renewed energy and confidence as we continue building the Bega Valley Women’s Giving Circle.
A warm thank you also to Robyn Hartley, who facilitated the conversation with such grace and insight, and to all our members who joined us, asked thoughtful questions, and helped create such a meaningful evening.
Together, we are building something special — one conversation, one connection, and one act of generosity at a time.
